| The
landscape is changing at the Disneyland
Resort. Once
you travel down Harbor Blvd. it becomes clear that something is different.
There's a building that grabs your attention.
No longer is the Matterhorn a source of recognition.
There's a new kid in town.This feeling
slowly builds as you take the tram ride into the Resort and walk across
the Esplanade. It continues all the way to DCA's main gate. Once inside
the park, you make a bee-line for Hollywood
Pictures Backlot. You hardly even
notice the stately golden elephants that grace the columns as you step back
in time to a long, forgotten Hollywood. As you approach the
Hyperion Theater, you
instinctively turn right onto Sunset Blvd. And there it is.
The Hollywood Tower Hotel.
Once your eyes take in this majestic sight,
it becomes apparent that something has gone horribly wrong.
Part of the building is missing!
As you approach the main entrance
gate, that the bell hops acknowledge your presence; they do not smile,
but simply nod and say, "Welcome
to the Hollywood Tower Hotel."
OK. A bit creepy but not too bad.
You enter the hotel lobby and then it hits you. Something is really wrong
here! Items are left askew around the lobby area. A tea cart with unserved
drink. A card game never to be finished. Luggage, newspapers, a child's
doll.
It's as if someone or something frightened these people enough to leave
all their belongings in haste. But what? |

Hollywood - 1939. The Twilight Zone." |
||||||||
| |
||||||||
| The TV goes black, and
a secret panel opens behind you, where you are now ushered into a passage
way that leads to a boiler room. You also
notice three elevators with passengers lined up to enter. As you
approach the loading area, your heart begins to beat a bit faster. All around
you are dripping, rusty pipes. The sounds
of "something" surround you and it becomes quite clear
that the noises you hear are not of "this
world." There is a bell hop that directs you to your elevator.
Once inside, you are told that your rooms are now ready. But wait! What
kind of elevator has 21 seats with seat belts? It becomes apparent
that this is no ordinary elevator. Before the door closes, the bell hop
gives you one last word of advice, "Remember,
if you need anything, just scream
" |
||||||||
|
"You are the passengers on a most uncommon elevator about to ascend into your very own episode of...The Twilight Zone." |
||||||||
| The elevator travels
up one floor, the doors open, and you see a wall with a very long mirror.
Below the mirror is a long table with moldy flower arrangements placed on
it. As you view your image in the mirror,
suddenly your image changes! You seem to morph into a ghostly figure.
The elevator then moves on to another floor. You see a long hotel corridor.
On the floor in front of the doors to the hotel rooms, old food trays are
placed that will never be picked up. Shoes are left that will never be shined.
And then suddenly the ghostly figures of
five people appear, beckoning you to join them
|
||||||||
|
"One stormy night
long ago, five people stepped through the door of an elevator and
into a nightmare. That door is opening once again, and this time it's
opening for you. You are about to discover
what lies beyond the fifth dimension...beyond the deepest, darkest
corner of the imagination...
in the Tower of Terror." |
||||||||
| At this, the
elevator suddenly drops, along with your stomach. It shakes and rattles
and then suddenly you're quickly ascending up, up, up. Once at the top,
the elevator doors open to what was once a 12th floor, but has since been
blown out by a lightening strike, the very
strike that killed the 5 passengers you just saw. They are locked
inside the hotel, forever. Perhaps the malfunctioning elevator is a way
for them to scare you enough to want to leave. Or perhaps they want company.
Who knows? The elevator again shakes and
then you suddenly plunge down. You think it's over but these spirits
are not done with you yet. After a couple more rattles, your elevator rises
to the top, and again, the doors open. And
once again, you plunge back down into the darkness. |
||||||||
|
"A friendly word
of warning; something you won't find in any guidebook. The next
time you check into a deserted hotel on the
dark side of Hollywood, make sure you know just what kind of vacancy
you're filling. Or you may find yourself a permanent resident of...The
Twilight Zone"
|
||||||||
| Once back, the doors
open and you are greeted by your bell hop, who says, "We
hope you enjoyed your stay at the Hollywood Tower Hotel, and please visit
us again real soon."
And it is at this word of advice that you find yourself once again heading
for the queue
